Sometimes students need to turn in work late. You can have student’s submit their work to the same Assignment submission folder by giving them Special Access. Special Access gives students access to a folder that is outside the date range without alerting other students. This is critical if you have confidential reasons for extending a submission folder.
To do this, navigate to the Assignments tab and click on the down arrow next to the title of the assignment you’d like to add special access to. Then, click on “Edit Assignment”.

Then, click on the “Availability Dates & Conditions” Menu to open it. Click on “Manage Special Access”.

From here, we have two options for Special Access. The first option, “Allow users with special access to submit outside the normal availability dates for this folder” extends an assignment that the rest of the class also has access to. This is the option used most of the time. The second option, “Allow only users with special access to see this folder” will hide the assignment folder from any students who do not have Special Access.
For this example, we’ll give Arnie an extra week to turn in an assignment the rest of the class has already turned in. We’ll choose the first option, then click “Add Users to Special Access”.

You can change the Due Date, Start Date, or End Date for Arnie by clicking the checkbox next to the date.

Select the student from the list that you’d like to apply the special access to. When done, click on “Save”.

To finish, “Save and Close” the special access window, and “Save and Close” the Assignment.
