Link a rubric to an assignment submission folder

Rubrics can be a powerful tool for your students. To implement them in the Dropbox folder, the rubric must first be written using the Rubrics tool.

Once that’s complete, it can be linked to a submission folder under Assignments. Go to the list of submission folders and select “Edit Folder” from the drop down menu next to the folder of choice:

Edit Submission folder

On the properties tab, with the title of the folder scroll down to the Add Rubric button and click on it.

Add Rubric

Then, click the checkbox next to the Rubric you wish to add and then click Add Selected at the bottom of the page.

Seems simple enough, but at this point we run into two issues. First, the Rubric and Competencies tools must be turned on. Secondly, the the rubric must be written and published.

The last step is to link the scoring of the rubric to the scoring in the submission folder. Under the Default Scoring Rubric is a drop down:

Connecting Rubric Points

Click Save and the rubric will be attached to the submission folder. Now when students open their submission folder under Assignments, they will see the rubric (without the feedback) before they submit their papers:

Show/Hide Rubrics

(If it’s not showing, be sure the link doesn’t have the rubric hidden.)

From there, you can even grade the Assignment submission folder using the Rubric you’ve created.
