One of the common issues we end up answering is about incomplete or “in-progress” quizzes. These are usually caused by students not submitting a quiz correctly and the settings not forcing the submission of the quiz. So, the quiz can’t be accessed by the student and it doesn’t show up by default for instructors as it is not a complete attempt.
To view these incomplete attempts, navigate to your course and go to the Quizzes tab. Click the down arrow next to the quiz you want to look in to open the context menu, and then select “Grade”.

As the default, you should only see students who have completed a quiz attempt. If you want to view all students– including those who only have a quiz attempt “In progress”, click on the Show Search Options link.

Then, change “Restrict to” to All Users. You can now search for the student by name or scroll down to find the student in your list.

NOTE: If there is no “Attempt 1”, then the student never opened the Quiz. Attempts begin when the quiz opens, not when they click on any questions.
To Submit a Student’s Attempt #
From here, you can click on the person icon to the right of the “(in progress)” description to enter the quiz as the student and submit the quiz on their behalf. (You can change answers, but a log is kept and we strongly discourage you from doing this.)

To Delete a Student’s Attempt #
You can also delete a student’s in progress attempt by checking the box next to the attempt and clicking Reset (trash can icon).
