Oh don’t worry, it’s not your fault. There is NO info link and no definition on what you are doing by adding a date in Grades. Several times during a semester eLearning receives a message explaining that students can’t see their grades. Almost always the issue is the same, dates have been entered into the grading area in the belief that the date and time entered is blocking the use of an Assignment, Discussion, or Quiz but that is not the truth.

Here is why:

Date restrictions set up in Quizzes set times students can see, start, and end quizzes/exams. This is not an issue.
Date restrictions set up in Assignments set times students can see, start, and end assignments. This is not an issue.
Date restrictions set up in Discussions set times students can see, start, and end discussion posts. This is not an issue.

Date restrictions set up in Grades, however, set times students can see their grades. This is the issue, a date is set when your students can see their grades.

To see if you have this issue setup in Grades check by going to the following area:

Go to Grades
Select Manages Grades
Look for the StopWatch icon, this lets you know a date is set that could block students from seeing their grades.

To fix the issue in Grades:

Go to Grades
Select Enter Grades (if not already there)
Click the Drop Down Arrow next to the quiz name
Select Edit
Select Restrictions tab
Uncheck all of the Availability Boxes then click Save

This fixes the issue with students not being able to see their grades. And, if you meant to add a date to the Assignment, Quiz, or Discussions, go to that tab and add the date there, not under Grades.
